Letting Go...

As a wiccan, we tend to talk a lot about harm none, do what thy wilt. Today I want to talk about a form of harm that some people often don’t think about, and that is letting go.

Sometimes we have had such horrible things happen to us, be it someone that was abusive to us, stole from us, used us, lied, cheated ect. Anyone of these acts are forms of harm, and often a form of harm we never forget. But something we need to always be mindful of, and something that is far easier to preach about, and talk about or type, is the act of letting go of the past.

Our past, if we allow it, will become a chain, a shackle that that forever binds us to that person, place or thing that harmed us. This is infact a form of self harm, by allowing our past, to enslave our present.

It's never easy, letting go of the past, goddess knows, I have had my fair share issues of things that held me back. But that is exactly what our past does, it holds us back.

I have been a survivor of abuse at the hands of my mother, and step father. I have been physically and sexually abused by an ex-boyfriend. I have been attacked for being a gay man, and as an openly known witch in my community. Each of these things, held me back for the longest time, until finally one day, I found the strength to let the past go. It taught me lessons, lessons that were hard to accept, but also lessons that helped me, in such a way, that I was able to help others dealing with similar issues, just be starting off, as being a listening ear.

The thing is, we can not allow our past to chain us, as it will always keep us from going forward with our lives. It will define us, if we allow it, and for me, it was waking up one day, and deciding that my past was not going to be my prison. I was going to love again, I was going to be something, and I was not going to let the shadows of everything bad that happened to me, keep the light ahead from being dimmed out.

We have to figure out for ourselves, where are strength is, and I promise you, you have strength inside, trying like a wounded animal, to claw it's way to the surface, so it can find what it needs to heal itself. We ALL have this inside us. It's a matter of letting that strength claw itself up, and let it grow stronger as we feed it, one day at a precious time.

As wiccans, we shun harm, and allowing things to hold us back, harms our present, and our future. I speak this to you as a wiccan that has been there, and this being one of the highest lessons a wiccan needs to overcome in order to one day be able to be a high priestess or priest. We have to learn to let go, let that wounded animal inside us, have the courage to claw it's way out, and grow stronger, so that it can be our strength, that guides is into the future we are meant to have.

In closing with this sermon, don’t let your past, continue to harm your present, and prevent you from having a future. Don’t let your past ever define who you are now, or who you will be. Don’t let your past enforce a label on who you are, and what you can do… Don’t let your past harm the beautiful life ahead, that you are meant to have. Let the past go, so your strength, can claw its way up, and begin to feed it….

I love you all.

Blessed be.
